Welcome to your motherhood era…

I am Sarah Ioannidis, the owner of Motherhood Era Psychology. I am a Perinatal Psychologist and, a mother myself, which I believe puts me in a privileged position to both understand and support mothers navigate the perinatal period. I know first hard what its like to face fertility struggles, the sleep deprivation that comes with pregnancy and the newborn period, the intense sense of not knowing what to do with this little human, and the pangs of loneliness at 2am when everyone else in the house is asleep. Although everyone’s experiences will be unique, I believe my journey to and in motherhood helps me bring compassion, empathy and understanding to my role as a psychologist.

I started my career working as a School Psychologist and have had the privilege to support many students, staff, families and communities in both regional and metropolitan settings. Since entering my own ‘motherhood era’, I found myself drawn to the perinatal field and became passionate about supporting mothers through the unique challenges and joys of the perinatal period. I consider the perinatal period to start from pre-conception (i.e. family planning, undergoing fertility treatment) all the way up to about three years postnatal - although I believe the motherhood era lasts forever!

Motherhood is up there as one of the most transformative periods of a person’s life - no matter what the journey has looked like - and honestly I believe it deserves so much more credit and air time than it is given. You will never hear me telling you what to do because “I’m the expert”, instead my goal is to empower you to become the “expert” in yourself and/or your own child/ren.

"If a society values its children, it must cherish their parents."
